Industrial output posts 9.6 pc growth in June
New Delhi, Aug 11: Strong performance by the manufacturing sector spurred the country's industrial production up by 9.6 per cent in June 2006 on a year-on-year basis, official figures released here today showed.
According to the Quick Estimates of Index of Industrial Production (IIP), the cumulative growth for the April-June quarter in 2006 stood at 10.1 per cent over the year-ago period.
Indices for manufacturing production, representing more than 75 per cent of industrial output, was higher by 10.5 per cent in June from a year earlier.
While production of consumer goods in June rose 5.9 per cent, that of capital goods was up by 23.7 per cent from a year earlier.
The Electricity and Mining sectors lagged behind notching growth of 4.5 per cent and 4.8 per cent respectively, the figures revealed.
In terms of industries, as many as 13 out of 17 industry groups recorded positive growth in the month over June 2005.
The industry group 'Other Manufacturing Industries' showed the highest growth of 25.8 per cent followed by 22.9 per cent in 'Transport Equipment and Parts' and 19.5 per cent in 'Basic Metal and Alloy Industries'.
Sectoral growth rates in June 2006 over June 2005 are 8.4 per cent in Basic Goods, 23.7 per cent in Capital goods and 9.9 per cent in Intermediate goods, as per Use-based classification.
