Hindustan Latex to introduce "injectable contraceptive"

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 11 (UNI) The contraceptive major Hindustan Latex Ltd will introduce an ''injectable contraceptive'' in South India next month, HLL Chairman and Managing Director M Ayyappan said today.

Talking to newspersons here, he said the contraceptive, Frasenius, manufactured by Germany would be imported from South Africa and marketed under 'Petogen' brand name by the company.

The cost of an injuction will be around Rs 125, he said adding that once the injuction was taken by a woman, its effect would remain upto three months and there was no fear about pregnancy.

''Though such a contraceptive is available in the market our aim is to provide the contraceptive at a reduced price,'' Director (Marketing) K K Suresh Kumar said.

For the satisfaction of men, the company would also shortly introduce a new condom ''vibrating ring+condom.'' Currently the vibrating rings would be imported from China and supplied with condom, he said.

Mr Ayyappan said the company recently launched ''Bsure-reuse prevention syringe'' for use in curative segment, which was a major step to address the public health challenge facing the nation.

It had also introduced the ''Autolok' auto destructive syringe, for the national immunisation programme earlier.
