Encounter between TSR and ATTF, arms recovered

Agartala, Aug 11 (UNI) A fierce encounter took place between the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and the banned All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) this morning in Tripura's West District under Khowai Sub- Division.

Police said the encounter ensued when the TSR jawans launched a massive special operation in Champahawar village in view of the coming Independence Day.

As soon as the TSR jawans reached the remote village, a group of ATTF militants with sophisticated weapons stated firing indisciminately at the jawans. The TSR personnel immediately retaliated, forcing the militants to flee.

There was, however, no report of any casualty on either side. The TSR jawans recovered an AK-56 rifle along with a few rounds of ammunition from the spot.

Security measures had been beefed up throughout the state and the security forces had launched special anti-insurgency operation to flush out the militants.

Meanwhile, the underground militants outfit, National LiLiberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and ATTF, had called for the boycott of the 59th Independence Day celebrations in the state.
