Empower SC/ST to make India developed country
New Delhi, Aug 11: Senior Congress member in the Rajya Sabha Santosh Bagrodia today stressed the need for empowering the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes within three or four years to bring them on par with other sections of society for making India a developed country.
Resuming the discussion on a Private Member's Bill The Constitution (Amendment) Bill of Articles 341 and 342, introduced on May 12, Mr Bagrodia stressed the need for giving the SC/STs their share in economic empowerment.
He called for removing ''political and administrative glitches'' in enbaling them to become an active constituent of the mainstream development.
He urged the government to convert the Bill into an official Bill.
Before the discussion was resumed, Mr Shantaram Naik introduced the Registration (Amendment) Bill, 2006, and the Compulsory Quoting of source Law Bill, 2006.
Also, Mr B J Panda introduced the Illegal Immigrants and Overstaying Foreign Nationals (Identification and Deportation) Bill, 2006, The Promotion of Two Child Norm Bill, 2006, and The Persons Affected by Naxalite terrorism (Relief and Rehabilitation) Bill, 2006.
