Eight Bihar districts vulnerable to AIDS
Patna, Aug 11 (UNI) The Bihar government today admitted eight districts are vulnerable to AIDS and more than 1100 suffering from this deadly disease.
Replying to a short notice question of BJP member Bhola Singh in the assembly, state Health Minister Mr Chandramohan Rai said that around 8211 people had so far been identified with HIV infections.
About 100 people had already died due to this disease in the state.
He said HIV infection was found mainly in eight districts like East and West Champaran, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Kishanganj, Purnea, Khagaria and Muzaffarpur. These districts, however, had not been declared high risk zone.
Mr Rai said Bihar AIDS Control Society had launched 38 AIDS related projects in all the 38 districts and sensitised people about the disease.
Apart from this, two anti-retrovital therapy centres had also been set up in Patna and Muzaffarpur for the purpose, he said adding that special forum of legislators of both Lower and Upper Houses have been constituted to fight the deadly disease.
