Doctor arrested for illegal abortion in Kangra

Kangra, Aug 11 (UNI) The police today raided a private hospital in Nurpur town in the district and arrested a doctor and two of his colleagues for allegedly conducting ''illegal abortion'' and endangering the lives of rural women.

The police raided the hospital of the doctor following a complaint by one Poonam Devi who alleged that she was a victim of illegal abortion, conducted in the hospital, which turned out to be unsuccessful.

Recently, Punjab Police recovered 200 to 300 female foetuses from a private hospital at Patan in the state.

The sources said Nurpur DSP Vimukt Ranjan said that the seven to eight room hospital was being run by a doctor who did not possess any degree or certificate.

The police have sealed the hospital and seized the register, which contained the list of abortion conducted in the hospital, the sources added.
