Couturier Satya Paul sourcing Lucknowi chikan apparels
Lucknow, Aug 11 (UNI) Leading Indian fashion designer Satya Paul is sourcing the world famous Lucknowi chikan apparels from the 'City of Nawabs' for his boutiques and high-profile clients.
Delhi-based Paul has placed an initial order for 10 intricately embriodered chickan sarees with a local buying agent.
Indra Bhushan of 'Shilp Sadhana'-- an umbrella NGO of about 20 chikan, textile and 'zardozi' unit clusters -- told UNI here the cost of the sarees would vary between Rs 12,000 to Rs 15,000.
''I met Paul in Delhi during a textiles expo. He liked the quality and authenticity of our products and decided to hire 'Shilp Sadhana' as his buying agent for chikan apparels,'' he claimed.
Mr Bhushan is also a member, Handicrafts Committee, of the 11th Five Year Plan.
''We provide chickan products to Ludhiana and Kolkata based fashion houses and designers,'' he informed.
Mr Bhushan was attending a workshop on 'Strategies and Preparedness for Trade and Globalisation in India' organised by UNCTAD, Government of India and Department for International Development (DFID) yesterday.
The event aimed at discussing ways to protecting Intellectural Property Rights through Geographical Indication Act, 1999 (that came into force in 2003) of world famous craftsmanship of Lucknow chikan.
