Chandigarh junior rower Manjit makes it to Indian Team

Chandigarh, Aug 11 (UNI) The outstanding performance by local junior rower Manjeet Singh at the 12th Asian Junior Rowing Championship, Singapore has won him a place in the 26-member Indian rowing team for Colombo South Asian Games.

The Indian team will be leaving for Colombo in two batches, on August 16 and 17 to participate in the 10th South Asian Games to be held from August 18-28. The rowing events will be conducted from August 19-21 in seven events.

Manjit will be stroking the Light Weight Coxless Four at Colombo.

Chandigarh-based three senior rowers Saroj Bala, Munshadi Khatun and Mamta Jane have also been called by Rowing Federation of India to attend the on-going National Rowing Camp to prepare for the Asian Games at Doha to be held in December this year.

The camp is being held at SAI, Water Sports Centre, Jagatpura, Orrisa.

Though the dates of the camp are from July 24 to September 17, 2006 the Chandigarh girls will be leaving for the camp today, due to late sanction and intimation.
