AICC leader wants PM to ban soft drinks

Hyderabad, Aug 11 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should consider imposing a nation-wide ban on soft drinks as they posed a serious health hazard, All India Congress Committee Secretary P Sudhakar Reddy demanded today.

Mr Reddy, who submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister, told reporters at the airport that ''it has been scientifically proved that the soft drinks consumed by us have in them very harmful chemicals, over the permissible level'' ''They do much harm especially to school-going children. Hence the Centre should consider imposing a ban on these soft drinks in the larger public interest,'' he added.
