26 villages put on alert in Anand district
Anand, Gujarat, Aug 11 (UNI) With 13 inches rain recorded in the last 24 hours in Anand district, the administration has released 6.5 lakh cusecs of water from the Vanakbori dam into the Mahisagar river affecting 26 villages, which have been put on alert. The flood control office in Anand has supplied all the Mamlatdars and Gram Sevaks of the 26 villages with life jackets to meet any eventuality.
According to official sources, 11.5 lakh cusecs of water could also be released after 1800 hrs today into the Mahisagar river.
Meanwhile, reports reaching here from Panchamahals district say the Flood Control Authority is releasing seven lakh cusecs of water from the Kadana and Panam dams that has marooned two villages, Binitha and Raparia trapping 2,000 villagers and also flooding the Mahisagar river downstream. About 300 people have been evacuated to a government school in the Binitha village.
Reports also say that water level of Vatrak river in Kheda district is rising. The district recieved 20 inches of rain and places including Nadiad, Balasinor, Kapadwanj are water-logged.
Two deaths were reported from Matar taluka in Kheda district. One woman and a boy were killed in rain-related incidents.
