SR upsets Punjab, W Rly has it easy over KSEB

Chennai, Aug 10 (UNI) Spurred by a brilliant 34 by Saravanarajan, Southern Railway upset debutants Punjab 71-64 to move into the quarter finals from Group A in the 28th All India Basketball ABC-L&T Basketball Tournament for Magnolia Trophy.

Western Railway scored a fluent 67-40 victory over KSEB in a Group B encounter. KSEB is now out of the championship.

Internationals Trideep Rai and Riyazuddin combined well to defeat KSEB.

ICF offered some initial resistance in their Group C match against ONGC but later wilted under pressure from the opponents for whom Deshraj was the top scorer with 25 points.ICF are out of the championship.

Central Excise Cochin scored an easy victory BSNL Chennai Telephones 58-47. BSNL Chennai Telephones are now out of the event.

In a fast scoring match, ONGC set up a fast pace to defeat Karnataka 62-44.

Two matches could not be gone through due to downpour and they had been shifted to tomorrow morning.

South Central Railway, ONGC and Southern Railway top Group A, C and D respectively and move into quarter finals. Indian Overseas Bank and Western Railway will fight it out to decide the top slot in Group B.
