CPI(M) seeks Rs 500 cr relief

Hyderabad, Aug 10 (UNI) The CPI(M) today asked the Centre to treat the flood situation in the state as national calamity and immediately release a financial assistance Rs 500 crore to Andhra Pradesh.

The two-day state committee of the CPI(M) which began here today said nearly 200 people died in the floods and heavy rainfall in the last one week and the state government had not responded promptly in tackling the situation.

It sought Rs one lakh as compensation to the next of the kin of the deceased besides payment for crop loss. The party also asked the state government to distribute 50 kgs of rice and ten litre of kerosene to the affected people.

Construction of pucca houses to those rendered homeless, compensation of Rs 2,000 for partially damaged houses, urgent repairs to irrigation sources and measures to avoid spread of contagious diseases in the affected areas were some of the other demands.
