Dehradun, August 9 (UNI) Social workers and mediapersons today staged dharna at Almorah District Collectorate and forwarded memorandum addressed to President A P J Abdul Kalam demanding withdrawal of the ammendment.

Scores of members of Uttaranchal Working Journalists Union and Uttarakhand Jan Adhikar Manch gathered at the District Collectorate shouting slogans and demanding immediate withdrawal of the ammendment.

The memorandum said to the President stated that if an ammendment was made in the Act, it would lose its main purpose for which it has been introduced.

Urging the President from buckling under political and bureaucratic pressure, the protesting members have threatened to augment the agitation in Uttaranchal in support of nation wide protest. They have further declared to come forward in support of the Campaign called by Anna Hazare at Mumbai.
