Itanagar, Aug 09 (UNI) The Village Action Committee and Youth Association of Gengi and Siberite villages in West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh has requested the state government to pursue National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) authorities to help rehabilitate the 72 affected families by Lower Subansiri hydroelectric project at Geukamukh.

In a letter to state Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Dorjee Khandu, both the associations pointed out that though the power giant assured many developmental activities like construction of school, playground, health center, community hall, approach road in the affected villages, it had not mentioned anything about the land compensation and construction of dwelling houses. '' The reported agreement between the state government and the NHPC is not at all acceptable,'' the letter said adding, there was no mention in the agreement about the job opportunities for the affected villagers. The associations have demanded a new agreement between both the sides incorporating compensation for land besides construction of 72 houses with provision of free electricity, job opportunities for youths of the villages and other facilities, the letter added.
