Manipur gets ready for Patriot's day observation

Imphal, Aug 9: Patriots Day would be celebrated througout the state on August 13 by the Manipur government and various social organizations.

The day is observed to honour Bir Tikendrajit, a Manipuri prince, along with Thangal General and three others who were hanged to death on this day in 1891 for waging war against the Britishers, sources said.

The function would also be organized at Thangal General temple complex here, they added.

Manipur Governor Dr S S Sidhu and Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh would lay wreaths at Kangla, the ancient seat of power of the Manipur rulers, which was recently handed over to the government by the Assam Rifles.

The Governor and the Chief Minister would also pay floral tributes at Shaheed Minar which was constructed at the place where the prince and the general were hanged, sources said.
