Kabir Samman for Vajpeyi

Bhopal, Aug 9 (UNI) Eminent poet Ashok Vajpeyi has been conferred the 2005-06 Rashtriya Kabir Samman that is given by the Madhya Pradesh government for compositions in Indian languages.

The award, established in 1986-87, carrying a cash component of Rs 1.50 lakh and a citation, was bestowed here yesterday. Vajpeyi is the third Hindi poet to be thus honoured. In 1989-90, the Samman was conferred on late Shamsher Bahadur Singh and to Kunwar Narayan in 2001-02.

Vajpeyi has several books on poetry and criticism to his credit.
