Group clash: 96 arrested, prohibitory orders clamped

Gadag, Aug 9 (UNI) Police have arrested as many as 96 people in connection with yesterday's clash between Hindus and dalits at Halakere village in this district of Karnataka.

The situation in the village is now peaceful and under control police said adding the two groups had clashed over a petty quarrel.

Of the 35 people injured, four had been admitted to the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences here.

Prohibitory orders under section 144 CrPC had been clamped in the village till August 11 and district armed police platoons deployed to avoid any untoward incident.

Senior police officials, including the Superintendent of Police, were camping in the village.
