Kanpur, Aug 8: Congress President Sonia Gandhi today virtually launched her party's campaign for the next year's assembly election in Uttar Pradesh with a blistering attack on the Mulayam Singh Yadav Government, accusing it of creating anarchy in the state.

Addressing a public rally here, she was also unsparing on the previous NDA regime at the Centre, saying the Manmohan Singh Government was finding it difficult to amend the laws formulated by its predecessor to 'help and protect' hoarders and black-marketeers.

The country, Ms Gandhi said, was making rapid strides in different fields under the UPA Government. However, forces of terrorism were trying to destroy the secular fabric of the nation and impede its progress.

"We must all unitedly fight the threat posed by terrorism.

However, we should not suspect any particular individual or community while dealing with the threat of terrorism," she said.

The Congress President expressed concern over the spriralling prices of essential commodities. The government had taken some serious steps which were yielding results.

Ms Gandhi said the Manmohan Singh Government was committed to the welfare of the people.

The 'nav nirman' rally of Ms Gandhi is being seen as a major attempt by her to woo the voters in the state ahead of the 2007 Assembly polls.

This was the first time in the recent past that Ms Gandhi addressed a rally outside Rae Bareli, her Lok Sabha constituency.
