Nikkei edges up after previous session's slide

TOKYO, Aug 8 (Reuters) The Nikkei average edged up 0.53 per cent on Tuesday, trimming some of its losses from the previous session's 345-point decline, as shares of Toyota Motor Corp. gained on earnings confidence.

The Nikkei was up 35.04 points at 15,189.10 as of 0005 GMT.

The broader TOPIX index was up 0.25 percent at 1,543.97.
