NE to have 4 border trade centres with B'desh
Aizawl, Aug 8: Union Commerce Ministry has decided to set up eight new Border Trade Centres (BTC) with Bangladesh out of which four will be in the north east.
The Centre would spend Rs 900 crores in three years for the development of these eight centres. Besides these, there would be four in Nepal and one in Pakistan, official sources said.
The NE states have also urged the Centre to open up additional BTCs for trade with Myanmar.
Arunachal Pradesh has requested the Centre to open three BTCs, one each with Pakistan, China, and Myanmar.
The North Eastern Council(NEC) has been entrusted with the task of carrying out the feasibility study across these border areas. It would prepare a blue-print about the project details.
