Muslim Defence force activist arrested

Chennai, Aug 8 (UNI) A Muslim fundamentalist, who had been eluding police dragnet for the last four years, was arrested by the Crime Branch-CID police at Tiruchirapalli and remanded in Judicial custody here today.

Police sources said he was a member of the Muslim Defence Force (MDF), whose 12 activists were arrested at Kodungaiyur on the outskirts of the city in 2002. A huge cache of explosives was also seized from them.

The CB-CID sleuths, who had spread a dragnet to nab three of the MDF members since 2002, got information that one of them Mohammed Imran, hailing from Thanjavur, was hiding in Tiruchirapalli city.

A special CB-CID team rushed to Trichy and arrested him.

He was produced before Tenth Egmore Metropolitan Magistrate court and remanded in 15 days' judicial custody.

He was later lodged in the Chennai Central Prison.
