Srinagar, Aug 8 (UNI) f stones.The Kashmir valley remained cut off from the rest of the country for the second day today following the closure of 300- km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway due to landslides and falling
However, the 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh was through for traffic, a traffic police official said here today.
He said the Srinagar-Jammu highway, the only road linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, remained closed.
Efforts are being made to reopen the highway, he said adding Border Roads Organisation (BRO) responsible for the maintenance of the highway have put into service men and sophisticated machine to clear the landslides and mudslides between Ramban and Rambu, triggered by heavy rains yesterday.
Meanwhile, hundreds of vehicles, including trucks loaded with essential commodities and fruits are stranded on either side of the highway.
Official sources said no vehicle was allowed to leave Srinagar or Jammu today. However, only stranded vehicles would be allowed to leave towards their respective destinatination when the green signal is received from the BRO and traffic police officials.
