IGNOU to help training personnel for power sector

New Delhi, Aug 8 (UNI) A Memorandum of Collaboration was today signed between the Union Power Ministry and Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) with a view to supporting and developing educational and training programmes for human resource development in the power sector.

Under the collaboration, signed in the presence of Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, IGNOU will launch the Advanced Certificate programme "Power Distribution Management" in October this year with prime objective to disseminate informative about current developments and practices.

The programme will also generate awareness on emerging technologies and trends.

As many 10,000 Junior Engineers and Asst Engineers level officers in the distribution utilities will be trained within next two years.

The programme will be developed and supported under Distribution Reform Upgrades Management (DRUM) programme, a collaborative initiative of Ministry of Power and USAID, India.
