Heavy rain causes severe damage in MP

Indore, Aug 8 (UNI) With heavy rain causing widespread damage in western Madhya Pradesh, the government has initiated steps to assess the loss to provide relief to the affected, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today said.

After making an aerial survey of the affected area -- Khargone, Badwani and Burhanpur -- Mr Chouhan told reporters here that relief amount would be disbursed to affected people soon.

As per preliminary information, 12 people were missing, while 113 cattle heads had perished in rain-related incidents. Besides, 2,281 houses -- including 1,000 in Badwani, 600 in Khargone and 673 in Burhanpur -- were damaged.

The CM said relief camps would be set up in affected area. The situation was being continuously monitored. The water level was receding and the situation was improving.
