Govt opposes Vikas Yadav's bail plea

New Delhi, Aug 8 (UNI) Government today opposed the bail plea of prime accused in Nitish Katara murder case Vikas Yadav.

Counsel for State submitted before the Delhi High Court, the defence contention that initiating penal proceedings against Vikas' sister Bharti Yadav, who is a prosecution witness, was illegal did not hold good as Bharti was under the ''control and influence'' of Vikas.

Quoting the statement made by Nitish's mother Neelam Katara, the counsel also said that Vikas did not approve of the ''growing intimacy'' between Bharti and Nitish. Bharti had given Nitish's address for her bank account, the counsel added.

Also, the hammer used in the crime was recovered in the presence of an advocate which belies the defence claim that no lawyer was present on the scene of recovery of the weapon.

The next hearing in the case will be held on August 10.
