Cops traditionally salute Ujjain's lord

Ujjain, MP, Aug 8 (UNI) In a classic 'jugalbandi' of the administration and tradition, a police band, personnel, scouts, guides, several voluntary organisations, political leaders and officials took part in this year's fourth 'sawari' (procession) of Mahakaleshwar, one of India's dozen 'jyotirlingas', in this ancient temple town.

Armed police personnel smartly saluted the deity as it was brought out of the shrine yesterday.

The procession is brought out every Monday in the monsoon months of 'Sawan' and 'Bhadon'. Thousands of devotees lined up on either side of the route to shower flowers on 'Rajadhiraj Bhagwan Mahakal' who was in a palanquin.

At 1600 hrs, the 'sawari' reached Ramghat on the bank of the Kshipra and after worship the procession headed back to the temple after traversing principal routes.
