Chambal bridge closed to heavy traffic

Bhind, Aug 8: Hundreds of heavy vehicles are stranded on either side of the damaged Chambal bridge that connects this state with Uttar Pradesh.

Heavy vehicles were prohibited from crossing the bridge yesterday. The decision was taken by Bhind SP Rajababu Singh and Uttar Pradesh's Etawah SSP Ashok Jain as one of the structure's bearings was broken.

Sources said police personnel from both states were stationed on either side of the bridge. Heavy vehicles can now reach Uttar Pradesh via Agra and Jhansi but a damaged road is preventing transport across Sahson Foof. Engineers from the Central Public Works department, Aligarh, are expected to reach the bridge tomorrow.

This is the sixth time the structure sustained damage due to passage of heavy vehicles. .
