Phagwara, Aug 8 (UNI) In a shocking incident of hate crime in the Philippines, a non-resident Indian Rajesh Kumar was shot dead and his friend Bhagwant Singh suffered serious bullet injuries on Sunday last, reports reaching the native village of the deceased in Punjab today said.

The 50-year-old deceased belonged to Khajurala village near here.

Sunil Kumar, the son of the deceased, told UNI here today that he had got the news of his father's death on phone from Manila. He said his father's body would reach the village tomorrow after all the legal formalities.

At least 50 persons from Punjab alone have been killed in the Philippines in the last two years.

The Ministry of External Affairs had recently written a letter to the Punjab government to discourage people from going to Philippines.
