Mumbai: Met office forecast heavy rains
Mumbai, Aug 7: Heavy torrential rains continued to lash parts of the island city and suburbs for the second consecutive day today disrupting vehicular and air traffic.
The Meteorological department in, its latest forecast, has predicted more heavy rains accompanied by strong gusty winds in the next 24 hours.
Rainfall recorded during the day from 1130 hours to 1430 hours was 25.6 mm at Colaba in southern Mumbai and 51.0 mm at Santa Cruz in the suburbs, stated MET department.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Johny Joseph, through mobile Short Messaging Service(SMS), has urged people to stay indoors and avoid travelling unless essential for the next 24 hours.
Air traffic was also affected with several flights operating behind schedule as a result of poor visibility and not due to water logging on the runways, informed airport sources.
City traffic police sources stated that personnel of the department were on standby and vehicular movements were slow on various routes.
However severe water logging has been noticed at Naigoan and Andheri subway has been closed due to excessive flooding, said traffic sources.
Fire department personnel were also on standby, However, no major accidents or electrocution cases have been reported so far, stated fire sources.
