'Left not to vote against UPA on BJP's resolution'
Kolkata, Aug 7: Veteran Marxist leader Jyoti Basu today categorically said the Left parties would not vote against the UPA government in Parliament on the BJP's resolution on Indo-US nuclear pact.
''Nothing will happen to the government. The Left parties and the BJP can have similar views on an issue. But it does not mean that we are going to join hands with them to vote against the government. We will not go for voting,'' Mr Basu told newspersons after attending the party's state committee meeting here.
Mr Basu said the Left parties had already sent a letter to the UPA government for discussing the issue in Parliament and the Left and the BJP might to raise the issue in the House.
Replying to a question on the future of the government, the veteran leader said, ''I would not like to make any comment beforehand. But the Left parties will continue to extend support to the UPA government.'' Referring to the Pathak Committee report, Mr Basu said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would give a reply on the issue.
