HC withdraws PIL on seer security

Chennai, Aug 7 (UNI) Madras High Court today dismissed as withdrawn a Public Interest Litigation, seeking a direction to the Union and State Governments to provide 'Z+' category security to Kanchi Acharya Sri Jayendrar and Junior Pontiff Vijendrar.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice A P Shah and Mr Justice K Chandru dismissed as withdrawn, the PIL filed by Advocate G Rajendran, who claimed to be a devotee of Seer.

When the PIL came up for hearing, Rajendran submitted that the security was provided to the pontiffs before the initiation of the criminal case. After their release from prison, security was withdrawn.

When the bench pointed out that only the party concerned could file a petition, seeking such relief, Rajendran sought court's permission for withdrawing the PIL.

Following this, the Bench dismissed the petition as withdrawn.
