Governor seeks Govt's view on hydel project
Bangalore, Aug 7 (UNI) Karnataka Governor T N Chaturvedi has sought state government's views on the hydel project for which the centre had rejected permission over environmental issues.
The Governor's action comes in response to opposition by various environmental groups, who submitted a petition opposing the state government's move to seek a review, saying that the project would have a serious environmantal impact on the fragile eco system of Westren ghats.
The petition was submitted by the Environment Support Group, which alleged that despite rejection by the center which had refused the forest clearance, the state government had again appealed for a review ignoring the adverse affect on the flora and funa of the area and the people's protest against the project.
In a letter addressed to Leo F Saldanha, Coordinator Environment Support Group, the Governor stated that he would initiate further action after receiving state government's response on the impugned construction of 18 MW mini hydal power project.
