Export of Rubber increased: Chairman
Kottayam, Aug 7 (UNI) Rubber Board Chairman Sajen Peter today said the export of rubber during the first quarter of the financial year was 28,617 tonnes, against 5,056 tonnes during the corresponding period last year.
The growth recorded 5.7 times,he said at the 156th Board meeting here.The export would increase further as long as the international price ruled above the domestic price, he said.
The production of Natural Rubber (NR) in the country during 2005-06 was 8,02,625 tonnes and consumption 8,01,110 tonnes. The growth recorded in NR production was 7.1 per cent and consumption 6.1per cent.The expected production during 2006-07 would be 8,31,000 tonnes and consumption 8,41,000 tonnes, he added.
The demand from China, Japan and the petroleum products price hike would help to increase the international price, he opined.
The Board had distributed Rs 175.91 lakh under various schemes to 18,000 -odd tapping workers and their families. For quality improvement Rs 34.16 lakh had been distributed to 16-block rubber factory. The expenditure under plan and non-plan categories was Rs 99.90 crore and revenue under cess Rs 96.26 crore, he said.
The office tenure of the present board would come to an end in September.
K Jacob Thomas, A V George and S Ramakrishna Sharma were elected as the representatives of large plantations from Kerala and A Jacob from Tamil Nadu to the new Board, he added.
