Congress refutes opposition charge
Hyderabad, Aug 7 (UNI) The State Congress today refuted the charge of the opposition Telugu Desam that the Government had not responded positively to the flood situation in the state.
Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, the Congress office here, senior party leaders Paladugu Venkata Rao and M Kodanda Reddy alleged the TDP was trying to politicise the flood situation to gain political mileage.
They said though the State Government and Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had responded immediately and ordered immediate relief measures in flood affected areas, the opposition parties were making 'irresponsible statements'.
They objected to the statement by Telengana Rastra Samithi leaders that the government had not responded immediately in flood hit areas in Telengana. The government had immediately opened relief camps and provided food and medicines for the people, they added.
In Warangal district, the government had opened seven relief camps and distributed rice, kerosene and drinking water, they said, adding, Dr Reddy had directed officials to take up immediate repairs of irrigation sources in the district.
The rains had helped Telengana region and increased ground water levels. The Government had directed officials to distribute 1,33,825 quintals of seeds on subsidy to farmers.
