Army chief inaugurates nursing school in Asom
Guwahati, Aug 7 (UNI) Chief of Army staff General J J Singh today inaugurated a nursing school in Asom, the second of its kind in the country, run by the Army Education Welfare Society (AEWS).
AEWS officials informed that the new nursing school would temporarily function from the Base Hospital at Basistha area of the city.
The permanent high-tech complex of the school would be built at Sonapur on the outskirts of the city.
Land had already been procured for the purpose and the complex would be ready by 2008.
Of the total seats, ten per cent would be open for civilian students. The rest would be reserved for wards of present and former Army personnel.
IV Corps GOC Lt Gen A K Nanda and AEWS president Maj Gen (Retd) Manmohan Singh, were also present at the inauguration.
The Army chief arrived here today for the inauguration and would head for Dimapur to lay the foundation of a school there tomorrow.
An Army school would be established on the outskirts of the 3 Corps headquarters in Dimapur on the 10.23 acre of land allotted by the Nagaland government. The school would have a total intake of 450 students.
The AEWS runs 120 Army schools in country with 1.5 lakh students on its rolls.
