Govt to decide on soft drinks ban tomrw

Hyderabad, Aug 7: Andhra Pradesh Health Minister K Rosaiah today said the government would take a decision on banning the sale of soft drinks in the state tomorrow.

The move comes in the wake of reports they contained high level of pesticides.

Speaking to mediapersons here, Mr Rosaiah said the government was discussing the issue with legal experts before taking a decision.

A government delegation led by him would also meet Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramdass at New Delhi tomorrow and discusss the reports which said soft drinks contained deadly pesticides with limits exceeding those set by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

A ban on sale of soft drinks in educational institutions would alone not solve the problem, the Minister said and added the government would take the right decision to protect the health of consumers.
