Adopt professsional approach to selection, says Chauhan

Chennai, Aug 7 (UNI) Former national selector C P S Chauhan has advocated a professional approach for selection of the Indian team for Test matches and ODIs.

Talking to newspersons here last night along with former chairman of the selection committee Syed Kirmani and former captain Md Azharuddin, the former Maharashtra and India opener, who was here for the veteran's inter-zonal tournament said the selectors must be made accountable and appointed on professional basis.

However, guarded in his reaction, Chauhan said ''There is too much of cricket being played now. We need more selectors to watch Duleep and Ranji trophy matches and ODIs.'' The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should have professionals as full time selectors, Chauhan opined.

''They should not be Honorary Selectors. They should be paid and made accountable as in other countries,'' he added.
