550 people evacuated in Anand

Anand, Aug 7 (UNI) Over 550 people were evacuated from the Ode village in Anand district today, after the heavy rainfall of 10 to 12 inches flooded three lakes, according to District Collector D C Jhalavadia.

In other rain-related incidents, five persons were trapped on the Mahisagar river at Umeta village near here and so far one person has been rescued. Rescue operation is still on to save the other four, Mr Jhalavadia said.

Some goats, too, have been trapped and efforts are on to rescue them, he added.
