25 more mini-hydel power projects in J

Srinagar, Aug 7 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today called for conducting a comprehensive survey to evaluate and harness the vast hydel power potential available in the state.

Addressing the 44th meeting of the Board of Directors of the State Power Corporation here, Mr Azad also stressed on completion of ongoing hydel projects so that electricity generation was increased in the state.

Efforts need to be made to complete the projects within the stipulated timeframe, he added.

The Chief Minister said the work on already allotted projects to the independent power producers should be speeded up. He said 25 more such projects for which tenders have been received also need to be executed in a fast manner.

The detailed project reports should be prepared for identified mini and micro-hydel projects to speed up the process of tapping the potential, he added.

Mr Azad directed for immediate start of work on Pul Doda bridge over River Chenab and for constructing of a motorable suspension bridge at Trungal besides speeding up work on the foot-suspension bridge at Marsoo on river Chenab for better connectivity.

Reviewing the implementation of Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidyutykaran Yojana, the chief Minister impressed for implementing the scheme in a more effective manner to achieve the objective of providing electricity to the rural and far-flung areas.

The meeting after detailed deliberations approved inter alia the annual works programme of the corporation for the current fiscal as well as the action taken report on previous decisions.
