17 poor meritorious students to get aid for higher studies
Kolkata, Aug 07 (UNI) To help them pursue their dream for higher studies, the city-based Ruia Hospital and Educational Research Institution has decided to sponsor 17 poor meritorious secondary and higher secondary students for completing their next level of studies.
In the first step the Institute will hand over a total amount of Rs 2,50,000 to 12 poor meritorious Higher Secondary and five secondary students, covering the entire expenses of their next year's studies.
Similar amount would be given to them every year till they finished their next level of studies, top RHERI official told UNI here today adding that city mayor Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya and RHERI Chairman and noted industrialist Pawan Kumar Ruia would hand the necessary amount to each of the 17 meritorious student at a function here tomorrow.
Among those who would receive the grant was this year's Higher Seconday examination topper Subhankar Roy Chowdhury, who secured a record marks of 999 in science stream while his father worked only as a mere copy writer in a local registry office in Toofanganj area of Coochbehar district in North Bengal.
Among others were the son of a local vendor Prakash Shee who secured 944 marks and the son of a blind beggar Tilak Burman who secured a record mark of 757.
Among the five meritorious but very poor Secondary students who had been selected for the financial assistance were the children of a vegetable vendor and a street hawker at Ashoknagar in North 24 Parganas and in the city - Manas Das and Amarjit Roy who overcoming mounting difficulties secured a total marks of 737 and 727 respectively.
