12-hour NH 39 bandh called off
Kohima, Aug 7 (UNI) The 12-hour proposed bandh, scheduled to begin from 6 am today on the NH 39 here, was called off.
The Highway Area Sumi Students Union (HASSU) withdrew the bandh following fulfillment one of its demands.
HASSU Adviser Hovishe and president Hookah Tuccu announced this late last night following a meeting with the representatives of NGOs and the information from the Directorate of Information Technology and Technical Education to remove the anomalies in the selection of the Joint Entrance Examination.
The demands among other were nomination of candidates for admission to MBBS courses to different medical colleages of the country on merit basis.
There were allegations that a senior minister of Nagaland government had manipulated selection process in favour of his son for admission in the MBBS course depriving some meritorius candidates in the JEE, which compelled the students to go for the agitation.
The HASSU also demanded unconditional apology from the minister.
