Situation alarming as Godavari rises
Hyderabad, Aug 6 (UNI) The situation along the Godavari has become alarming with the water level, which was 66 feet at Bhadrachalam in Khammam district this morning, swelling to 66.2 feet by 1500 hrs today.
The water level at the Cotton Barrage in Dowleswaram in East Godavari district rose to 22 feet, according to an official release on the flood situation in Andhra Pradesh.
Considering the havoc resulting in huge loss of life in 1986 when the level at Dowleswaram touched 24 feet, people living in villages alongside the river have been spending sleepless nights.
More than 100 villages were marooned in the picturesque Konaseema area of East Godavari district.
The state received 347.5 mm of rain as against the normal 344.8 mm, marking an increase of one percent. While the coastal areas received 351 mm of rain against the normal 321.7 mm marking an increase of 32 percent, Rayalaseema received 136.8 mm as against the normal 201.3 mm and the Telangana region received a rainfall of 429.6 mm as against the normal 422.9 mm, an increase of two per cent.
