More Delhiites carpooling than Mumbaikars

New Delhi, Aug 6 (UNI) A survey by a carpooling website has revealed more people from the national capital have joined the carpool bandwagon than those from the financial capital of the country.

A survey by Indimoto.com, India's first carpool website launched four months ago in April, said a maximum of 53 per cent carpoolers belonged to Delhi while Mumbai came second with 26 per cent.

As many as 91 per cent of them were male and majority (85 per cent) were between 26 to 45 years of age, it said.

More than 81 per cent of the carpoolers were employed in the private sector and 44 per cent had a monthly income of over Rs 50,000, it added.

The primary reason, 62 per cent, for carpooling was cost saving followed by traffic reduction, 38 per cent, and fuel saving, 33 per cent, the survey further added.

More than 300 people had found carpool matches via the site and as a result are saving an average of Rs 1500 per person on monthly fuel and commuting expenses while reducing pollution and traffic on choked city roads.

Indimoto.com, which was propagating carpools across the country, conducted the survey to understand the profile of car-poolers in terms of gender, age, geo location, occupation, income, vehicle ownership, monthly fuel expense and opinion on the benefits of carpools, website founder and CEO Udit Bhandari said.

''This survey is a part of our commitment towards promoting carpooling in India. We wanted to understand the profile of commuters who have opted for carpools by posting free listings on Indimoto.com and gauge their opinion on the concept. The results of this survey will enable us to better target our promotional activities and reach a larger base of commuters who stand to benefit immensely,'' he added.
