Chennaiite selected to work with Bill Gates

Chennai, Aug 6 (UNI) An engineering graduate in the city has won a rare honour of working with Microsoft Chairman and Chief Architect Bill Gates at the company's Redmond headquarters in the United States.

It was a dream come true for 22-year-old Abhishek Kumara Subramaniam who emerged winner in 'Code4Bill,' a gruelling talent hunt launched by Microsoft, by overcoming stiff competition from more than 20,000 contestants.

Abhishek, who completed his B Tech in the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) this year, will serve as an intern with Mr Gates for a period of one year.

Looking forward to the ''exhilirating experience,'' the IITian said he would prove himself and do the country proud.

The competition, announced by Mr Gates during his visit to India late last year, was held for nearly seven months in which 19 finalists were selected for internship at Microsoft facilities in Hyderabad and Bangalore.

Abhishek was ultimately declared winner in the final round and Microsoft India described him as the 'Indian superstar who will assist Mr Gates in shaping the future of technology.' The competition involved three rounds of online tests in mathematics, algorithms and logical thinking and reasoning, focusing on technical challenges, two rounds of one-to-one interviews and finally, a two-month internship at Microsoft India facilities in Bangalore and Hyderabad.

Abhishek said the contest was tough and challenging and provided him an insight into cutting edge product development and innovation.
