Brinda scorns US for imposing sanctions on 2 Cos
Tiruchirapalli, Aug 6: The Centre should strongly protest against the United States for imposing sanctions against two Indian Companies for allegedly passing on technology to Iran that could be used for developing weapons of mass destruction or missile systems, Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau Member Brinda Karat said today.
Addressing a press conference here, she said one of the Indian Companies has very clearly said it supplied the products used for making life-saving antibiotics. This was the same kind of approach that the US had followed earlier, when it banned even something like lead for pencil stating that lead can be used for the production of mass destruction weapons. So, the sanctions against the Indian Company was something that the Government of India should look into and strongly protest against, she added.
Mrs Karat alleged that the US was imposing its hostility towards Iran on India which was unacceptable. The Government of India should take care of this issue. US sanctions reflected that it is trying to impose its own views on other countries of the world, including India, she said.
