Army arrest two DHD cadres, recover arms

Silchar, Aug 6 (UNI) Army today arrested two Dima Halam Daoga (DHD) cadres along with weapons from Lodhi Kachari area of Cachar district in a early morning raid near North Cachar Hills border in Asom.

Sribar-based 306 army field regiment sources said that acting on a tip- off, army jawans along with police, cordoned off the hilly Lodhi Kachari village at midnight yesterday and started the operation in the wee hours today.

The militants, who were holed up in a house, started firing.

However, fearing that innocent people might get killed, cops abstained from retaliation and instead overpowered the militants inside the house.

The arrested DHD cadres hail from Doyangmukh and Haflong areas of North Cachar hill district.

Two AK-56 rifles, 8 Indian-made 9 mm carbines, 3 Chinese grenades and 104 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the militants, an Army official said.

The militants were handed over to police for further interrogation.
