AISA protests Lebanon's pounding by Israel
Varanasi, Aug 6 (UNI) Activists of All India Students Association (AISA) here today marked the Hiroshima Day -- 61st anniversary of first atomic bombing -- by staging a demonstration against Lebanon's pounding by Israel.
Activists gathered outside the Banaras Hindu University's (BHU) main gate and took a vow to 'gherao' Parliament with AISA members from across the country on August 18 over the UPA government's silence on the issue.
AISA activists led by state secretary Manish Sharma carried out a protest march against the Israeli bombing and raised anti-US slogans before burning in effigy US and Israel.
Addressing fellow activists, Mr Sharma demanded the United Nations step immediately and prevent the Israeli-US axis from destroying the sovereignty of Lebanon.
Mr Sharma also charged the Manmohan Singh led UPA government at the Centre with playing to the US diktats by remaining mute on Israeli misadventure.
''By remaining mum on the issue, the UPA government was offering tacit support to the US misadventurism of destroying Lebanon, like Afghanistan and Iraq,'' he added.
He also demanded the UPA government to come clean on the issue, besides abandoning the nuclear deal with the US.
