60 militants infiltrated through Poonch, Rajouri: IG
Jammu, Aug 6: About 60 militants infiltrated into Indian territory at Poonch and Rajouri despite a strict vigil along the LoC, Jammu Inspector General of Police Dr S P Vaid said.
Addressing a press conference here, Dr Vaid said according to intelligence inputs about 60 Pakistan-trained militants have infiltrated to step up their activities in the region.
''Despite a strict vigil infiltration bids were going on and many insurgents had been killed by the security forces,'' he said in reply to a question.
He asserted that there was a marked decrease in such incursions due to untiring efforts of the Indian Army, paramilitary forces and the state police.
About 25 Pakistan-trained militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba, equipped with sophisticated weapons, had infiltrated to Indian territory via border district of Poonch last Sunday night.
They kidnapped a local boy, Mohammad Sharief, for helping them with the area. Two days later Sharief escaped from their custody and informed the police about the infiltration.
