TNPCB to keep eye on petrol, diesel adulteration

Tiruchirapalli, Aug 5: The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) has embarked on a massive exercise to bring all petrol retail outlets across the state under its scanner.

TNPCB Chairman K A Mathew told newsmen here last night, the decision followed largescale complaints of adulteration of petrol and diesel.

Initially, petrol outlets with service stations will be covered by the board. Already, directives have been issued to them not to sell lubricants without packaging.

The board is undertaking a survey to find out if all the industries have been brought under its net.

Mr Mathew said the TNPC had issued guidelines to manufacturers on use of raw materials for making Ganapathi idol for the 'Vinayaka Chaturthi' Festival.

The board had advised them against using chemical substances and painting for making the idols.

The district collectors and police will monitor if the guidelines are being followed, the TNPCB chief said.
