Third phase polls put off in flood-hit areas

Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, Aug 5 (UNI) The third phase of elections in 554 gram of the 6923 gram panchayats, scheduled for tomorrow, were postponed in the wake of heavy rains and floods across the state.

The elections were postponed in the districts of Srikakulam, East Godavari, Guntur, Khammam, Medak and Mahboobnagar, State Election Commission officials said here tonight.

The election authorities made all arrangements for the conduct of the polls in free and fair manner in other parts of the state, they said.

A fresh date for holding the elections in the rain-hit areas would be announced later, based on reports from the District Collectors concerned, they added.
